To the present day

From the Tower of Castiglia (prison since the first half of 1800, until 1992, has been renewed and today is the museum box and seat of temporary galleries), our eyes embrace the plain, full of growing and orchards, following the profile of Cottian Alps, the white barrier stretching to the Norwest until Gran Paradiso, and finally peeps out sea Alps.

Precisely along paths of Maritimes Alps, anchovies’ traders ("anciuè" in dialect), wandered during time off field work, in order to trade kegs of salted anchovies, priceless goods to be imported in Piedmont.

Traders left when they were very young and engaged in this travelling trader, an important source of income, private and familiar. We love remembering their story because is liked to a product we really love, i “biscôit”: they’re our rusks, that we produce based on the ancient recipe of French origin. This recipe has been spread in South Piemonte at the beginning of XIX century thanks to immigrants and anchovies’ traders when returned home.

Cradel biscôit is the most characteristic product constituting our production. The origin of this rural-flavoured rusk is very peculiar. Rural Rusks were born on order: our friends from “Quintino Sella “Hut asked us to provide them a simple, healthy and tasty product to be offered for breakfast to their guests. We had to purpose a tasty and nourishing product, but it also had to be easier to digest, in order to satisfy all sportsmen who stayed overnight to the hut. So, we picked the recipe of biscôit and transformed it in our inviting Rural Rusks. The success of our product was unbridled, so that he stopped being exclusive and started to be one of our peak products. Today, Rural Rusks are available also in two appetizing versions: Rusks Without Sugar and Wholemeal Spelt Rusks.
